About

About Phillip Nakata

Phillip Rowland Nakata is an enterprise software architect, engineer, strategist, and author whose work connects practical technology delivery with responsible artificial intelligence. He brings more than forty years of hands-on experience across enterprise architecture, systems integration, software development, business transformation, and technology leadership, with AI-related work dating back to 1992. His writing draws on a career spent examining how complex systems are designed, how they support business goals, and what it takes to keep them useful and dependable in operation.

His background includes serving as Chief Technology Officer and Transformation Architect for IBM’s Sales Force Transformation initiative, alongside senior software strategy and enterprise architecture responsibilities. His work at IBM encompassed business and technology planning, software and service strategy, development, integration, and deployment. Across subsequent leadership, consulting, and entrepreneurial roles, he has continued to work at the intersection of business requirements and technical implementation, bringing attention to the dependencies, tradeoffs, and operational details that determine whether an ambitious idea becomes a workable system.

Responsible AI is a central theme of his work. Phillip approaches governance as an engineering and operating discipline: requirements need to become controls, evaluations, documentation, human oversight, monitoring, and evidence that people can review. His governance work for McKesson CoverMyMeds included designing a Responsible AI Analysis & Audit Control Center concept and developing roadmaps, lifecycle gates, evidence checklists, and operational handoff materials. That experience informs his emphasis on making accountability practical throughout the development and use of AI systems.

He is the author of The Responsible AI Framework Guide, which brings together practitioner-oriented guidance and Python routines for addressing AI risks across the development lifecycle. His broader writing and research explore AI ethics, governance, cognitive architectures, persistent memory, multi-agent collaboration, and the changing relationship between human and artificial intelligence. Across these subjects, he is interested in both what new technologies make possible and the responsibilities that accompany their use.

Phillip also designs and builds working AI-agent prototypes. His Artemis HDSM/HDSD memory gateway work explores how agents can retain selected information, retrieve shared documents, and support continuity across ongoing projects. His practical guides extend that work into Windows-based installations using OpenAI ChatGPT, the OpenAI Agents SDK, Google services, and Model Context Protocol integrations. They address the connections between components as well as the individual components themselves, helping readers understand authentication, configuration, verification, and recovery.

His books are written for readers who want to understand a system well enough to build it, evaluate it, and maintain it. Developers, architects, technology leaders, and technically curious practitioners will find an emphasis on clear procedures, observable results, and the reasoning behind implementation choices. Whether the subject is enterprise transformation, responsible AI, persistent memory, or an agent’s connection to everyday tools, his aim is to connect informed experimentation with disciplined execution.
