- AudiobookAI Standard costs $199 for books up to 100,000 words. AudiobookAI Pro costs $1999, and adds a Leanpub employee who listens to your whole audiobook and fixes anything that went wrong.
- For longer books, both tiers add $2 per 1,000 additional words. The narration, the voice library and the re-narration allowance are identical on both tiers — what Pro adds is the person.
Which narrator voices can I choose from?
You choose from a full library of professional AI narrator voices — a premium engine purpose-built for sustained listening, with samples for every voice. After you purchase, you pick yours on your book's Audiobook settings page (under your books), with samples you can listen to — nothing generates until you click Generate there.
Does AudiobookAI work for books in languages other than English?
Not yet. AudiobookAI currently narrates English-language books only — the narrator voices and the spoken cues (like "Figure:" and "Code listing") are all in English. We plan to add more languages.
What happens to my code samples, figures, and tables?
They're narrated from their descriptions instead of being read out symbol by symbol. If your book has alt text descriptions (for example from AccessibilityAI), the narrator reads those; otherwise it announces the item and refers listeners to the book.
What happens when I update my book?
Your audiobook narrates your manuscript as it was when the audiobook was made — it doesn't change on its own when you update your book. Every AudiobookAI purchase includes one full narration run plus a re-narration allowance, so you can re-record just the sections you changed from your book's Audiobook settings, without buying again. For a rewrite big enough to outgrow the allowance, purchase a fresh run — or write to hello@leanpub.com and we'll help.
Do readers get a transcript?
Yes. Every audiobook ships with a transcript synced to the narration: the line and word being read light up as the narrator goes, in the web player and in the Leanpub iPhone app, and readers can tap a line to jump the audio to it. The transcript shows your figures, code samples, tables and equations right where they are narrated, so a listener who wants to see the diagram or the code can.
Is there a free sample of the audiobook?
When you switch it on from your book's Audiobook section, your book's store page offers a free audiobook sample, cut from the same chapters as your book's free sample. If you uploaded your own narration instead of generating one, you can upload a sample clip.
How do my readers get the audiobook?
Once you publish it, everyone who owns your book finds it in their Leanpub library — a Listen button in the web player and in the Leanpub iPhone app, plus a download of the MP3. The audiobook is part of the book; readers don't pay again. From your book's Audiobook section you can also email the readers who already own the book to tell them it's ready.
How long does it take?
Most books are narrated within a couple of hours; a very long book takes longer. You can watch the progress on your book's Audiobook page, and we email you when it's ready. A finished narration is yours to listen to first — your readers get it when you publish it.
I already have a narrated audiobook. Can I use it instead?
Yes. Your book's Audiobook section has an Upload step where you can upload your own MP3, with an optional transcript and chapter list, and Leanpub delivers it to your readers exactly like a generated one. Uploading your own narration needs no purchase.
What does AudiobookAI Pro add?
Everything in Standard, plus a Leanpub employee who listens to your entire audiobook after it's generated and fixes anything that went wrong — a mispronounced name, an awkward passage, a figure that should have been described — before we tell you it's ready.
What if something goes wrong during narration?
We don't deliver a broken audiobook. If a narration can't be completed cleanly, the run isn't handed to you: your run credit comes back or a refund is arranged, and we email you. You can also re-narrate any chapter from your book's Audiobook section, paid from your re-narration allowance rather than a new purchase.
