組織の文化やマインドセットを変えなければ、アジャイルはうまくいかないと考える人がいる。このことを「アジャイル変革（Agile Transformation）」と呼ぶ。また、アジャイルは導入可能なツール・プロセス・プラクティスの集合だと考える人もいる。このことを「アジャイル導入（Agile Adoption）」と呼ぶ。
結局のところ、組織にアジャイルを取り入れることが大きな変化であり、アジャイルに取り組むことはパズルの1つのピースにすぎない。
つまり、アジャイルは（「変革」であれ「導入」であれ）組織変革のきっかけにすぎないのである。さまざまな研究を1995年まで遡ってみても、組織変革の成功は極めて低い結果となっている。チェンジマネジメントによって、変革管理に多くのツール・手法・プラクティスが導入された。アジャイルによって、現代の組織における作業管理に価値や原則が導入された。
