Als je de wereld op een nieuwe manier wilt zien, heb ik een simpele oefening voor je:

1. Sluit je ogen.

2. Stel je een tafel voor.

3. Stel je een bal voor die van de tafel rolt.

(Serieus, doe dit nu voordat je verder leest. Ik wacht.)

Klaar?

Beantwoord nu de volgende twee vragen:

1. Welke kleur had de bal?

2. Welke kleur had de tafel?

Als je een doorsnee persoon bent, heb je waarschijnlijk geantwoord dat de bal rood, geel of blauw was. Ik heb ook meer gedetailleerde beschrijvingen van de bal gehoord, zoals geel met blauwe strepen.

Voor de tafel heb je misschien een kleur of een materiaal zoals hout bedacht. Misschien heb je zelfs een specifieke houtsoort gekozen, zoals grenen of eiken.

Nu kan het voor sommigen van jullie zijn dat het antwoord meer lijkt op dat van mij...

If you want to see the world in a new way, I have a simple exercise for you:

1. Close your eyes.

2. Imagine a table.

3. Imagine a ball rolling off the table.

Done?

Now, answer the following two questions:

1. What color was the ball?

2. What color was the table?

If you're a typical person, you probably answered that the ball was red, yellow or blue. I've also heard more elaborate descriptions of the ball, like yellow with blue stripes.

For the table, you might have thought of a color, or a material like wood. You may have even picked a specific wood, like pine or oak.

Now, for some of you, the answer might be more like mine...
