I was born in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated high school in Robertsdale, Alabama. I went to Auburn University were I was in the NROTC Program as a Marine Option. I graduated with a B.A. in History and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. While I was at The Basic School, I married my college seetheart, Kathryn Kennedy. My first duty station was Okinaw, Japan with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. While in Japan, we had two sons: William Michael and Brayden James. After my first tour, I switched to the reserves and enrolled in law school at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center as part of Louisiana State University's Campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While in law school, my wife had our third child: Aubrey Kate.
