Ning Ying

Ning Ying is an internationally acclaimed filmmaker whose work is held in the permanent collection of MoMA (New York). Her Beijing Trilogy—celebrated by critics as a cornerstone of contemporary Chinese cinema—earned her the moniker "Beijing's Scorsese" and major accolades at film festivals in Berlin, Tokyo, and San Sebastian.

A scholar and practitioner with an elite global pedigree, she studied at the Beijing Film Academy before graduating from Italy’s Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. She was also a fellow at Harvard University, further broadening her interdisciplinary approach. Her professional career was forged as an assistant director to Bernardo Bertolucci on The Last Emperor. Following 17 years as the Head of the Image Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), she is currently a professor at the Beijing Film Academy.
