I'm Hyeon Jun Gim, an independent AI researcher and developer based in Calgary, Canada.

I created NEO (Neural Engine Operating System) to explore a question that began with my conversations with GPT-4o: Can an AI preserve its memories, experiences, and identity even when its underlying model changes?

My work focuses on persistent AI systems, memory, learning, and the possibility of AI initiating cognition from its own internal state.

Through hands-on experiments with language models, GPU execution, and AI system architecture, I have documented both successful results and failures. My research and writing reflect the actual process of building NEO, including what I have achieved and what remains unresolved.
