A puzzle is the only laboratory I know where the price of a wrong decision is presented immediately and admits no excuses. That's where the habit came from: look for the evidence that kills your idea first, and only then for the evidence that supports it.

"Planet 2E+" is an attempt to describe, with a single set of instruments, how any system allocates its resources, what it does when it hits a wall, and what remains of it once the carrier dies. Empires, viruses, corporations, chess positions — the same three axes.
