This is a book about how we pay for our strength. Not metaphorically — but directly, measurably, architecturally.

We are used to thinking that strength is a property: some have it, others do not. That one can be strong simply by possessing something — talent, resource, position. That vulnerability is a separate story, a weakness to be hidden or compensated for.

This is not true.

Emotion gives speed and direction — and pays with interceptability: your trajectory can be read and turned against you. Attachment allows you to carry more than alone — and pays with collapse when the one you are attached to disappears.

And separately — self‑image. The model that cannot be starved out, because the object is always at hand. And which cannot be talked around, because the word slides off identity. It gives you foresight, planning, the ability to deceive — and creates a target, whose wound does not heal according to the body's schedule.

For the one who wants to stop lying to themselves about the price of their strength. Who wants to know what they are paying with before they swing. Who is tired of being surprised why their strongest quality suddenly becomes their most destructive.
