About the Book

Post-quantum cryptography is not a single upgrade. It is a transition across the connections, identities, suppliers, and operational decisions that keep an organization working.

In The Post-Quantum Transition, Igor van der Burgh turns that challenge into a practical enterprise program. The book begins with the quantum threat and the different lifetimes of confidential data, digital signatures, and devices. It then follows the work that matters: discovering cryptographic dependencies, prioritizing services, designing crypto-agile architectures, proving compatibility, and observing what actually changes in production.

Technical chapters explain ML-KEM, ML-DSA, and SLH-DSA; hybrid TLS; certificates and PKI; identity assertions; VPN and SSH dependencies; code and firmware signing; long-term evidence; and the performance and failure modes of a migration. A recurring fictional organization makes the decisions concrete, while dated public cases show why stronger cryptography does not replace transaction authorization, endpoint security, or control of signing authority.

Eighteen technical diagrams, six architectural illustrations, practical tables, and hands-on OpenSSL labs connect the concepts to evidence. The companion migration workbook provides registers for services, cryptographic relationships, suppliers, tests, exceptions, responsibilities, and migration waves.

Written for solution and security architects, engineers, service owners, and technical leaders, this book offers a clear operating sequence: discover, prioritize, design, prove, migrate, and operate. The objective is not a badge that says “quantum-ready.” It is the ability to change cryptography while preserving security, availability, and accountable decisions.

About the Author

Igor van der Burgh

Igor van der Burgh is a Lead Solution Architect at Citrix with almost 25 years of experience in

information technology. His career has centered on end user computing, progressing from consultant to

field architect and then to his current role.

In recent years, Igor has increasingly focused on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. That interest

has led him to explore how AI systems can be manipulated, how their data and connections create

exposure, and how technical choices affect organizations and the people who depend on them.

This book grew out of his own learning journey. As Igor deepened his understanding of AI security, he

wanted to turn what he learned into an accessible resource for others. His aim is to connect explanations

with practical examples and questions that readers can apply in their own work.

Drawing on his background in consulting and architecture, Igor writes for people who need to translate

technical subjects into organizational decisions. He hopes readers will use the book to examine

assumptions, start useful conversations, and identify practical improvements, whether advising

customers or strengthening security within their own organizations.

For Igor, writing is also a way to keep learning. This book reflects his belief that knowledge becomes

more valuable when it is shared and put into practice.
