Patrick Applegate
Patrick Applegate is an Academic Editor at Research Square. In this role, he edits manuscripts written by scientists who have English as a second language for eventual publication in English-language journals. He also contributes to the development and testing of software tools for use by editors at Research Square.
Patrick earned his Ph. D. in Geosciences at Penn State and is first author or co-author of over 20 peer-reviewed scientific papers. His publications treat topics including ice sheets and their contributions to sea level rise, methods for estimating the ages of glacial deposits, and the application of statistical methods to problems in the geosciences.
Patrick is also a co-editor of Risk Analysis in the Earth Sciences: A Lab Manual with Exercises in R, a free textbook that teaches the Earth science and statistical concepts needed for assessing climate-related risks.
Patrick previously worked as a research associate and scientific programmer in the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute at Penn State. He was also a postdoc in the Bolin Centre for Climate Research at Stockholm University in Sweden and at Penn State. Patrick has also taught college-level courses on topics including geology, geography, and statistics at SUNY-Geneseo and Penn State DuBois.
