I write about product development, engineering, management, decision-making and the systems organisations use to turn ideas into results.

My main interest is in the underlying logic of how complex work should be managed: how to make important goals explicit, separate ends from means, reason about alternatives, deal with uncertainty, learn from evidence and improve decisions over time.

I am particularly interested in where conventional management language obscures rather than clarifies what is actually going on.

My books are attempts to make those problems more precise, more practical and harder to hand-wave away.
