The Mending Of Babel

For twenty years, I have worked as a technologist, building systems and watching software eat the world. Yet, my deepest passions have always lied at the intersection of history, philosophy, religion, and the messy realities of human culture.

The Mending of Babel was conceived as a warning, a thought experiment, and an educational piece to prepare us for an era that is arriving faster than our institutions can comprehend. We are rapidly approaching a threshold where AI-driven automation will sever the ancient link between human labor and basic survival. When labor-based value exchange goes obsolete, humanity will face a sudden, terrifying vacuum of purpose.

This work models the two fundamental directions society might take to solve this vacuum, the material leveling of The Common Table and the hyper-structured alignment of The Ordered House. Both systems successfully solve the traditional afflictions of scale, physical scarcity, and cultural friction. However, both ultimately fracture under the weight of The Maker's Unclean Hand, the baseline truth that no automated system can ever be purer than the biased, power-seeking human hands that design, inherit, or maintain its algorithms.

I have integrated the concept of Algorithmic Theology into the Evening Tellings of both books. This addition explores the inevitable moment when a society's technology outpaces its culture so completely that science is degraded into magic, database maintenance becomes liturgy, software updates become prayers, and technologists inherit the earth not as engineers, but as an unassailable, cloistered priesthood mediating between humanity and a silent, unmoving mechanical deity.

If we do not actively build a higher spiritual purpose into the scaffolding of what comes next, we will merely build a gilded, hyper-efficient playgrounda beautifully optimized cage where we are safely fed, endlessly entertained, and completely hollowed out
