About the Book

Most engineers don’t need more AI. They need a system they can trust.

The Engineer’s Grok Bot Playbook shows you how to build a small, focused team of AI assistants around the official Grok Bot product, with your own second brain behind them. The goal is better engineering outcomes, not just faster typing.

You won’t get hype or a promised productivity multiplier here. The book starts from the research: GitHub’s controlled Copilot study and METR’s randomized study of experienced developers point in different directions. So the playbook gives you a way to measure your own workflow and decide what earns a place in it.

Inside, you will learn how to:

  • Find the expensive repetition in your week and pick one bottleneck to fix first.
  • Understand what Grok Bot is and isn’t: persistent named agents, a shared cloud computer, account-wide connected apps, and why naming a bot “Work Reviewer” does not create a security boundary.
  • Subscribe, install, and run a first grounded task without overpaying or relying on outdated tutorials.
  • Connect GitHub, issue trackers, docs, Slack, and observability one service at a time, with a harmless access test and the narrowest scope you can get.
  • Design a nine-bot engineering team: Boba (chief of staff), Mando (implementation and review), Merlin (architecture), Ripley (verification), Sentry (reliability), Scribe (documentation), Scout (research), Archivist (knowledge curator), and Yoda (deliberate practice). Start with three and add the rest only when a measured bottleneck justifies it.
  • Turn good one-off tasks into skills and routines, with deduplication, task ledgers, and clear stop conditions.
  • Build a second brain with canonical knowledge, working notes, and task evidence. Connect every bot to it through a private Git repository, Obsidian, Notion or Drive, or a custom MCP service.
  • Run complete workflows: issue to reviewable change, architecture decision without “decision laundering,” incident to organizational learning, and weekly learning that changes practice.
  • Control security, quality, and cost: Auto Review, “Ask first” rules, prompt-injection tests, evidence standards, and a recovery sequence for when a bot does something unexpected.
  • Measure whether it helps: net human time saved, rework, escaped defects, retrieval success, and cost per accepted result.

You also get a 30-day adoption plan, a troubleshooting table, and a library of reusable templates: task requests, handoff packets, review findings, knowledge proposals, routine specifications, and a weekly system review. Every prompt is ready to adapt to your repositories, permissions, and review process.

The book is candid about its limits. It separates what the official documentation supports from what is a proposed design, and it labels every prompt, folder structure, and workflow as a hypothesis to test on a bounded task before you rely on it.

This book is for software engineers, technical leads, and Staff and Principal Engineers who want AI assistants that prepare the work, surface evidence, and preserve context, while they keep the judgment calls.

Start with one recurring task. Verify the result. Expand only when the evidence says so.

About the Author

Geison Goes

Geison Felipe Góes Flores is a technical author focused on the principles behind correct, auditable, and resilient financial systems. He wrote Fundamentals of Software Engineering for Fintechs to help professionals understand what happens beneath balances, transfers, payment confirmations, and financial APIs.

His work connects software architecture, distributed systems, accounting concepts, payment operations, reconciliation, security, observability, and invariant-driven testing. Rather than prescribing a single technology stack, Geison presents practical models for identifying where money or financial facts could be duplicated, lost, delayed, corrupted, or accepted without sufficient evidence.

Throughout the book, he transforms complex financial rules into mechanisms engineering teams can implement and verify: balanced ledger entries, explicit state machines, idempotency contracts, immutable histories, reconciliation procedures, audit trails, risk-oriented metrics, and controlled recovery paths.

Geison’s central belief is that trust is not merely a feature presented through an interface—it is a technical property earned through every modeling, architecture, implementation, and operational decision.

“A trustworthy financial system must be able to explain not only what happened, but why it happened and how its correctness can be demonstrated.”

With practical examples, pseudocode, SQL, checklists, exercises, and architecture review frameworks, Geison helps engineers, architects, technical leaders, and fintech teams turn financial complexity into systems they can understand, operate, and trust.
