PREPARE. PERFORM. SUCCEED.

This book is 100% completeLast updated on 2026-08-04

Most iOS interview books teach you the answer. This one shows you what a senior sounds like giving it: three versions of every answer, candidate, senior, and staff, side by side, so you can see the gap between correct and hired. 178 questions across six career levels, each with the follow-up that decides it and the red flag that ends the loop.

About the Book

Most iOS interview books teach you the answer.

This one shows you what a senior sounds like giving it.

For every major question, you get three versions:

What most candidates say. Correct. Textbook. Earns a nod and nothing else.

What a senior candidate says. The reasoning underneath: the trade-offs, the scoped judgment, the distinctions the interviewer is actually listening for.

What a staff+ engineer says. The systems view. How the decision behaves under Swift 6 strict concurrency, at team scale, in production, and how you make the discipline enforceable instead of aspirational.

Read those three side by side and you can see the gap between where you are and where the offer is. Most candidates never see that gap. They just lose, and never find out why.

"I used to fail technical interviews constantly, despite watching countless online courses. Then I found Mr. Mike's book on LinkedIn, and it made all the difference. After six months of searching and over ten failed interviews, his plan worked for me, leading to my first job contract today."
Vivek K., Senior iOS Engineer, Banking

Why good engineers fail interviews

They memorise answers. They learn what ARC is, what an actor is, how dependency injection works.

Then the follow-up questions start, and there is nothing underneath.

Because senior interviews are not testing definitions. They are testing judgment: why you chose one architecture over another, how you weigh trade-offs, how you diagnose a performance problem with incomplete information, how you think when there is no single correct answer.

Nobody teaches this. Your company will not sit you down and explain what the interviewer writes in the debrief, or how expectations change between senior and staff, or which red flags quietly end a loop before you know it is over.

That is what this book is.

What's inside

178 real interview questions, 146 pages, organised by career level.

Junior (0-2 years). Swift fundamentals, UIKit, networking and JSON, application lifecycle, memory management and ARC, architecture basics, security.

Mid-level. SwiftUI, structured concurrency, testing, dependency injection, persistence, performance, modern workflows.

Senior. Modular design, scalability, Swift internals, CI/CD, architecture trade-offs, production systems, security.

Tech Lead. Mobile system design, technical direction, roadmap planning, cross-team collaboration, strategic decisions.

Mobile Architect. Platform strategy, architecture governance, multi-platform systems, technical standards.

Engineering Manager. Hiring, leadership, team growth, difficult conversations, performance reviews.

Fully updated for Swift 6 and strict concurrency, actors, structured concurrency, SwiftUI, the Observation framework, SwiftData, WidgetKit, App Intents, Live Activities, and modern testing.

Every question also comes with the follow-ups the interviewer will push with, and the red flags that weaken an answer.

"The explanations of the different answer levels helped me understand the gap between a correct answer and a strong senior-level answer. This book changed the way I approach interview preparation."
Elena A., iOS Engineer, Fintech

"The sections on modularization, Swift internals, architecture trade-offs, and system design felt much closer to actual senior interviews than anything else I've read."
Daniel R., Senior iOS Engineer, Ecommerce

"The red flags, follow-up questions, and trade-off discussions make this more valuable than another collection of model answers."
Sophie L., Engineering Manager, SaaS

Who it's for

iOS engineers preparing for interviews at any level, from your first junior loop to a staff, architect, or engineering manager conversation. It assumes you can already build an app. It teaches you what interviewers expect, how deep to go, and how to show judgment rather than recall.

About the author

I'm Mike Salari, a Staff Mobile Engineer and Tech Lead. I've been shipping iOS since 2011, across fintech, crypto, and enterprise, working with Apple, Deloitte, Cisco, Mastercard, Visa and other global companies.

I've also spent years on the hiring side of the table. I've watched strong engineers lose offers to worse-prepared candidates who simply understood the exam. This book is what I wish someone had handed me before my first senior loop.

The strongest candidates don't memorise answers. They show interviewers how they think. This book teaches you the difference.

About the Author

Mike Salari

Staff Mobile Engineer and Tech Lead. 15+ years building production mobile software across fintech, crypto, and enterprise, at companies including Cisco and Mastercard, with experience across Apple, Adobe and Visa. Shipping iOS and Android since 2011.

I have also spent years on the hiring side of the table, conducting 500+ technical interviews, and that is where I kept seeing the same thing: strong engineers losing offers and stalling at senior level for reasons nobody ever tells them. The gap is almost never talent. It is preparation, positioning, and the ability to make judgment visible under pressure.

So I started writing the fixes down as complete systems. My books cover interview preparation for iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter engineers, engineer visibility and positioning, offer negotiation, and the jump from senior to staff.

No video courses, no coaching calls, no fluff. Dense, practical playbooks for engineers who would rather read for two evenings than watch a guru for twenty hours.
