This book is not a summary of ISO 14064-1. Its purpose is to develop a practitioner who is actually able to:

Work as an independent consultant: write technical proposals, price projects, manage a client and deliver professional outputs. Support clients in the iron and steel, cement, aluminium, fertilizer and chemical sectors — the sectors most exposed to CBAM and regulatory reporting. Build the complete knowledge foundation for a later move to the Lead Verifier pathway under ISO 14064-3.
A note on language. The original programme was written in professional Modern Standard Arabic, retaining technical terms in English wherever that is the established usage in the market (Scope 1/2/3, GWP, MRV, CFP, baseline, etc.) rather than literal translations that might confuse a learner working in a bilingual environment. This English edition follows a single locked terminology throughout (see the List of Abbreviations and the Glossary).

Ahmed Samir Farag is a Mechanical Power Engineer and a CBAM & Decarbonization Strategy Advisor based in Egypt. my work sits where three fields meet — heavy industrial operations, greenhouse gas accounting and carbon regulation — and that position shapes the way this book is written: every concept is tied to a measurement, a calculation and a decision that a real facility has to make.
I am a Certified Carbon Footprint Auditor, officially accredited by the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS), Egypt's national standards body. This gives him direct experience of GHG assertions from the auditor's side of the table: the evidence a verifier asks for, the gaps that lead to findings, and what makes an inventory defensible.
As CBAM & Decarbonization Strategy Advisor at Ta-meri Systems LLC, he leads the development of three industrial carbon platforms: SteelCarbon, for ISO 14064-1 organization-level GHG inventories; CBAMCalc, for compliance under the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (Regulation (EU) 2023/956); and CemIntelligence, for life cycle assessment and Environmental Product Declarations for cement under EN 15804+A2.
I advise Egyptian steel and cement producers on GHG inventories, CBAM readiness and decarbonization pathways. my engagements range from rebuilding an entire inventory at the level of individual evidence items and defending it before an audit, to feasibility studies on renewable power, green hydrogen and carbon capture for EAF steelmaking and cement kilns. I write my board-level recommendations in both English and Arabic.
