About the Book
PMSM² — PMSM Mastery is a practical engineering reference for engineers, students, and technical professionals working with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors, electric drives, and Battery Electric Vehicle propulsion systems.
The book develops PMSM control from first physical principles through practical implementation, connecting electromagnetic theory and mathematical modeling directly to real electric-drive control.
Beginning with magnetic fields, three-phase systems, and Clarke and Park transformations, the book develops the complete PMSM model before moving into voltage-source inverters, PWM and SVPWM, field-oriented control, current and speed regulation, MTPA, field weakening, voltage and current constraints, and high-speed operation.
Later chapters address position and speed estimation, sensorless observers, parameter identification, digital implementation, inverter nonidealities, torque ripple, saturation, and the integration of the PMSM into an electric-vehicle powertrain.
Particular attention is given to the bridge between equations and engineering practice: current-loop tuning, voltage-vector saturation, flux and torque maps, electrical-angle calibration, machine parameter identification, MTPA trajectory generation, field-weakening limits, and real inverter effects.
The book also includes worked numerical examples, derivations that every motor-control engineer should be able to reproduce, a compact master equation atlas, common misconceptions, exercises, and a laboratory and simulation pathway.
The objective is simple: to provide the theoretical foundation and practical control understanding required to analyze, simulate, calibrate, tune, and implement PMSM electric-drive systems without treating the motor controller as a black box.
Topics include:
Electromagnetic foundations • Three-phase rotating fields • Clarke and Park transformations • PMSM mathematical modeling • SPMSM and IPMSM machines • Inverters • SPWM and SVPWM • Field-Oriented Control • PI current-loop tuning • MTPA • Field Weakening • MTPV • Sensorless estimation • Parameter identification • Flux and torque maps • Digital control implementation • Inverter nonidealities • Electric-vehicle powertrains • Worked numerical examples
About the Author
I am a BEV Calibration Engineer with a background in embedded electronics, systems control, and electric powertrain engineering. My work and technical interests focus on electric motor control and calibration, particularly Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs), field-oriented control, MTPA, field weakening, inverter operation, and electric-drive optimization.
I am especially interested in bridging the gap between electromagnetic theory and the practical challenges encountered in simulation, dynamometer testing, calibration, and real-world electric-vehicle development.
I wrote PMSM²: PMSM Mastery to organize the knowledge I have developed through engineering study and practical work into a rigorous but intuitive reference. My goal is to help students and engineers understand not only the equations behind PMSM drives, but also the physical reasoning and control principles that make those equations useful in practice.

We pay 80% royalties on purchases of $7.99 or more, and 80% royalties minus a 50 cent flat fee on purchases between $0.99 and $7.98. You earn $8 on a $10 sale, and $16 on a $20 sale. So, if we sell 5000 non-refunded copies of your book for $20, you'll earn $80,000.
(Yes, some authors have already earned much more than that on Leanpub.)
In fact, authors have earned over $15 million writing, publishing and selling on Leanpub.
