A practical, node-by-node guide to Modbus in Node-RED: every client node and TLS setting explained with real examples and small Node.js scripts showing what's happening underneath. Tested end-to-end against genuine Modbus traffic — including the real bugs found along the way, told honestly instead of hidden.

About the Book
@plus4nodered/node-red-contrib-modbus gives Node-RED thirteen nodes for talking Modbus TCP, RTU, and TLS — everything from a single register read to resilience features like circuit breakers, retry policies, and connection pooling. This book is the practical guide to using all of it well.
It's organized the way you'll actually use it: a five-minute Modbus primer to get you oriented, then a complete node-by-node reference covering every setting on every tab — not just what a checkbox does, but the situation that makes you check it. A hands-on learning path walks through the package's own example flows stage by stage, pairing each one with a small standalone Node.js v24 script so you can see exactly what a node is doing underneath its editor panel. A dedicated security chapter covers Modbus over TLS end to end. And the closing chapters cover the companion server packages, for when you need something on the other end of the wire to talk to — finishing with a client and a server built and tested together.
What sets this book apart: every example in it was actually run, against real Modbus traffic, before being written up — not assumed to work because the code looked right. That process surfaced real bugs, in this package and in the packages it depends on, and this book tells you about them honestly, in the chapter where they matter, instead of pretending the happy path is the whole story.
If you want the protocol theory and the underlying SDK internals in full depth, the companion volume Modbus with Node.js covers those; this book assumes just enough of that background to get you productive in Node-RED fast, and points you to that book wherever the deeper story lives.
