About the Book
Alloy design increasingly depends on quantitative models of phase separation, precipitation, and microstructure evolution. Numerical Methods in Alloy Design develops the numerical methods needed to turn the Cahn–Hilliard free-energy description into practical computational tools for binary and multicomponent alloys.
Matrix discretisations, spectral schemes, quasi-steady reductions, and classical matrix-exponential techniques (Putzer, Apostol) are derived side by side and tested on spinodal-alloy benchmarks that mirror laboratory quenches. The emphasis is on methods that materials engineers and computational metallurgists can implement, compare, and extend when designing heat treatments, predicting coarsening, or screening interfacial scales.
Who it is for
Materials scientists, metallurgists, and applied mathematicians who design or analyse alloys and need reliable numerical routes from free-energy models to microstructure predictions. The text is written so that a reader can implement the algorithms, reproduce the spinodal benchmarks, and judge when a quasi-steady or fully dynamic treatment is appropriate for a given heat-treatment or ageing problem.
