About the Book
It all began with a simple conversation.
“You know, I think I'm done with London now. I told you I wanted to move abroad at some point, I think we should go soon”
"Erm, ok, when?"
"Next summer?"
"Ok, we'll, you apply for jobs first and we'll see what happens. Aim east as I know we've got some offices over there, maybe I can get a transfer?"
And so 3 years ago the journey began, culminating in us arriving in Hong Kong a fraught 12 months of planning and job hunting later. Moving abroad was never something I wanted to do, and when I met my (now) fiancé I had only ever been as far as France. I honestly didn't think it would happen, and the sheer task of upheaving our London lives was something huge, scary and totally abstract; I assumed it was a whimsical idea that would never pan out. I can say with no uncertainty that moving was the best decision of my life both personally and financially, and something I've never had any regrets over.
The problem with most moving books is they're bland textbooks; rigid, fact containing tomes which are as exciting as celery. With this book I want to use my experiences both as an expat and as someone working for a tier 1 bank to pass on what I've learnt in my time and to help others to decide and execute their move. This will contain the real, up-to-date information that you need.
If you're debating a move to Hong Kong for personal or work reasons, if you know you're making the move soon or if you know friends or colleagues that have gone and want to understand more, then this is the read for you.
