About
About the Book
How much PV, wind, battery storage and EV charging should a microgrid have, and where should each component be connected? Research papers give the equations and the final numbers, but rarely show how to get from raw data to a design you can defend. This book does. Step by step, with complete MATLAB code written from scratch, it walks you through a full sizing study of a hybrid microgrid, from a year of weather data to a verified design ready for a report or a journal paper. You will learn to prepare a year of hourly solar, wind, load and EV data; model PV arrays, wind turbines, lithium-ion batteries and charging stations; simulate 8,760 hours with an energy management system that closes its energy balance; compute NPC, LCOE, LPSP and emissions; code Particle Swarm Optimization line by line; compare GA, the Grey Wolf Optimizer and the Red Deer Algorithm fairly with proper statistics; place PV, storage and chargers on the IEEE 33-bus feeder; and test robustness with sensitivity analysis, Monte Carlo uncertainty and component failures. The complete MATLAB package that produced every number and figure in the book, with 31 automatic tests and one master script, is free on GitHub and archived on Zenodo (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23921752). Leanpub edition: DRM-free PDF and EPUB, with clickable links and colour figures. Paperback and Kindle editions are available on Amazon.
