Als Steve Jobs am 9ten Januar 2007 die Bühne der Macworld betritt begrüßte er die Teilnehmer mit den Worten:"We’re going to make some history together today". Im weiteren Verlauf präsentierte er das erste iPhone und kündigte an, damit das Telefon neu zu erfinden. Damals war nicht abzusehen, dass er mit diesen Aussagen recht behalten sollte. Mit dem Erfolg von iPhone und iPad trat auch das darauf verwendete iOS seinen Siegeszug an. Im Jahr 2011 hatte iOS einen Anteil von 43,1% an allen installierten Smartphone Betriebssystemen.
Aber was hat die Verbreitung des iPhones bei privaten Endanwendern mit der Verbreitung in Unternehmen zu tun?
Volker Weber, Korrespondent des Heise Zeitschriften Verlags, skizzierte dies sehr plastisch anhand eines Beispiels:
Der Chef kommt in das Büro des Administrators mit einem iPad unter dem Arm und streckt es ihm mit den Worten entgegen:"Machen Sie da mal Mail und Kalender drauf". Der Administra- tor antwortet:"Wir haben aber Blackberry". Der Chef aber besteht darauf.
Dieses Beispiel beschreibt ein neues Phänomen in der IT-Landschaft der Unternehmen; die IT wird vom Anwender getrieben. Gartner nennt diesen VorgangConsumerization of IT.
Apple schafft es durch die Durchdringung des Endanwendermarktes auch in eine Domäne vorzudringen, die bisher primär von Herstellern, wie zum Beispiel Blackberry beherrscht wurde, nämlich die der Unternehmen.
Das Buch beschreibt an konkreten Beispielen wie iOS Geräte in Unternehmen sicher eingesetzt werden können. Auch werden Probleme und Gefahren aufgezeigt die im falschen Umgang mit Apple iOS entstehen können.
