Book title shown in print-ready PDF header

Gregor Hohpe8/12/2026

OK, I am almost through :-)

It seems when I enable "Show chapter name in page headers", it also shows the book title on the opposite page? It did not use to do that. Is there a new setting that I missed? If the two settings are linked, perhaps just update the description.

It's not critical, I made small fixes to my book an am looking carefully at any differences. Thank you!

Hi Gregor!

At first glance, I can't find the setting -- just the settings that you found. Fable and I are looking into it now.

What we obviously should have done here is (a) kept existing books unchanged and (b) made the default behaviour better for new books and (c) provided more granularity so that existing book authors have control over the behaviour of the left and right running headers separately.

At first glance, this looks like it was a requirement miss. This was unlike the previous bug with the equalize figure spacing, where we had gotten the requirements 100% correct and tried to do the right thing -- and conceptually had done the right thing -- but a bug messed us up. My assumption (the investigation is still ongoing) is that this looks like a requirement miss where we just literally did the wrong thing, which was absolutely stupid on my part.

Assuming that's what it was, I'm going to fix this to have customizable running header behaviour, and make the default be what it was before the change...

Sorry for all the hassle here!
Peter

We now have restored the behaviour of headings to what they were before. We've also added the ability to customize the running headers on the right and left pages of the print-ready PDF to use the book / part / chapter / author name, or even have a custom running header which is different on each side. We also support those options on the ebook header as well as custom, etc.
