About
About the Course
Learn Portuguese the way readers have always picked up languages: through a story worth finishing. This course pairs every sentence of Agatha Christie's The Secret of Chimneys with its Portuguese translation and a word-by-word glossary, then checks your progress with quizzes as you read.
What you'll learn
- Hundreds of everyday and literary Portuguese words, met in context.
- How English sentences map onto natural Portuguese sentences.
- Reading longer Portuguese prose with confidence.
- Spotting key words inside authentic Portuguese sentences.
- Following a full classic, from Bulawayo to the secrets of Chimneys.
Who this course is for
- Beginner-to-intermediate learners of Portuguese who want real reading practice.
- Readers who love classic literature and want to learn while they read.
- Teachers looking for a structured bilingual reading course.
Before you start
You should be comfortable reading English. No prior Portuguese is required, though some basics help.
How it works
- 31 chapters, each sentence in English, then Portuguese, then a numbered glossary.
- 13 quizzes (one about every 2 chapters), 5 questions each, 3 attempts, best score counts.
- A 20-question final exam with 2 attempts and randomised question order.
- Pass mark 70%, honours at 85%.
- A certificate of completion when you pass.
