一台机器人照着工程师预先写好的流程端出一盘菜，是否真的“会做饭”？《厨房里的具身智能》从这个问题出发，区分任务完成、自动化、模仿、技能与手艺。它关心的不是怎样把每一道菜编进机器，而是机器人如何通过观察、接触、尝试、失败、恢复和长期记忆，形成原本没有被逐项预编码的能力。
全书把厨房当作具身智能的试金石，也当作一间向读者开放的研究实验室。14章依次讨论可学习的身体、行动机会、触觉手感、世界—动作模型、VLA实时反应、异常诊断与恢复、主动课程、长期记忆、安全探索、人类教学和学习证据。成熟方案只作为基线；正文重点呈现尚未定型的前沿路线、它们的失败方式，以及能够证伪这些路线的实验。
本书还持续检验一个绕不过去的系统命题：当机器人必须进入未经改造的普通家庭、使用人类工具、从人类示范中学习、在人身边协作，并在任务后处理自身污染时，身体为什么会被推向可自清洁、动作可读的功能性人形？这不是预设结论。书中同时保留固定臂、轮式双臂和环境改造方案作为对照，并要求用空间覆盖、示范翻译、协作可读性、清洁复验和长期维护成本来决定人形路线是否成立。
