The Herbalist's Vow

Hi, I'm Evelyn. TL; DR: Listen to "The Last DJ" by Tom Petty. I count myself among the endangered species known as real creators in the post-apocalyptic sea of AI slop. If you, too, are a creator or appreciator, read on for my stance on the destruction caused by AI in creative fields.*

Almost all of my skills are threatened with AI-induced extinction. As a music teacher by trade and amateur writer, visual artist, miniaturist, and crafter, I have cultivated interests among still other creative pursuits in different life seasons. At best, AI offers the ability to regurgitate a soulless chimera from the severed remains of good literature, art, or music. At worst, it is capable of stamping out an entire generation's ability to narrate its immutably human experience.

If real writing, art, and music become living history exhibits, my hope is that at least a few from each generation will stand to preserve them. From the spark that remains, perhaps one day a flame can be rekindled from the ashes of what once was. 

*Far be it from me to decry the utilitarian benefits of AI in medical, mechanical or computing contexts. This manifesto applies only to those disciplines which have traditionally relied on human creativity and expression.
