Solutions of the Cahn Hilliard Equations

Rahul Basu

Description

Welcome to the Leanpub Launch video for Solutions of the Cahn Hilliard Equations https://leanpub.com/solutionsofthecahnhilliardequations by Rahul Basu! 0:00 Rahul Basu introduces himself and his background in mathematics and materials science 0:47 Academic journey from Caltech to UCLA and the emergence of materials science as a field 1:43 Introduction to spinodal alloys and phase separation as the core subject of the book 2:34 Practical applications of spinodal alloys in superconducting magnets and high-strength materials 3:25 How the book developed from personal research notes into a formalized monograph 4:14 Future directions covered in the book: AI, physics-informed neural networks, digital twins, and quantum computing 4:14 Connection between the book's theory and Basu's practical work with the Defense Research and Development Organisation 5:09 Why existing textbooks fall short and how this monograph aims to be more accessible and useful 5:57 The matrix method as a computational shorthand for solving simultaneous equations in Cahn-Hilliard problems 7:30 Overview of the book's scope: analytical, numerical, and approximate methods for real-world mathematical applications About the Book Solutions of the Cahn–Hilliard Equations The Cahn–Hilliard equations play a central role in the mathematical modeling of phase separation, interfacial phenomena, and diffuse-interface problems arising in materials science, fluid mechanics, and related fields. Their nonlinear, higher-order structure makes both analytical and numerical solutions challenging. Solutions of the Cahn–Hilliard Equations presents a focused treatment of methods for obtaining analytical, numerical, and approximate solutions of these important equations. The book develops the mathematical formulation of the problem and examines practical approaches for handling nonlinearities, boundary conditions, and the complex behavior associated with phase evolution. Written for researchers, postgraduate students, engineers, and applied mathematicians, the book provides a useful bridge between the underlying mathematical theory and methods suitable for practical computation and analysis. It is intended both as a reference for those working with Cahn–Hilliard models and as a supplementary text for advanced study in applied mathematics and computational science. Key topics include: Formulation and properties of the Cahn–Hilliard equations Analytical approaches to nonlinear phase-field problems Approximate and perturbation-based solution methods Numerical treatment of Cahn–Hilliard equations Boundary-value problems and phase evolution Applications of the equations in scientific and engineering problems This book will be particularly useful to readers seeking a practical understanding of how Cahn–Hilliard equations can be analyzed and solved across a range of mathematical and engineering applications.
