About the Book
When was AI invented, and how did we get from a 1950 thought experiment to a chatbot in every pocket?
This short, sourced history follows artificial intelligence through eight eras, from Alan Turing's question "Can machines think?" to the AI race of 2023 to 2026. It is written in plain English, in a warm and friendly voice, for anyone who feels late to AI.
Inside you will find the 1956 Dartmouth workshop where AI got its name, the AI winters and why the hype ran ahead of the results, Deep Blue, Watson, AlphaGo and the deep-learning breakthrough, the real newspaper headlines from the day key milestones broke, ChatGPT, the 2024 Nobel Prizes and the first big AI law, plus a one-page timeline from 1943 to 2026 and quick answers to the questions people ask most.
Every date, figure and quote is tied to a dated, numbered source. Facts were checked on October 25, 2026.
Unofficial, not affiliated with any AI company.
