Modern WordPress development has changed a lot in recent years. From new block-based themes and the Gutenberg editor to new PHP and JavaScript integrations, it's once again exciting and fun to develop for WordPress.

The development of REST APIs has grown steadily, from using the REST API within the same site to being able to integrate it into a headless or mobile application.

PHP as a language has improved with each version. The days when PHP was a difficult-to-maintain, verbose language are long gone, and with each version it becomes more like a strongly typed language such as TypeScript. In this book, we will present this new approach, using the language's most available features to create plugins that take advantage of these features, whether for internal use or for publishing in a store.
