For a long time, the simulation field has lacked a didactic text, compatible with our audience and market reality, that would be suitable both for those interested in the conceptual aspects and those interested in the practical aspects of Discrete Event Simulation.

Without falling into a superficial approach and without committing to commercial simulation software, the authors develop the main concepts in a well-organized, well-written text with touches of good humor. This book has a healthy balance between theory and practice and presents us with topics ranging from more technical subjects, such as modeling, probability and statistics, validation and experimentation, to practical cases, described in an enjoyable manner.

The text is applicable to both undergraduate and graduate courses in Engineering—particularly Industrial Engineering—, Business Administration, Computer Science, and other related fields. It is also suitable for specific courses and training on the subject, as well as for the scholar who wishes, on their own, to update and deepen their knowledge of Discrete Event Simulation. Another important merit of the text is the authors' concern with presenting a relevant and up-to-date bibliography on the subject, even including a dedicated area on the internet for continuous supplementation and updating of the text.

It is, therefore, with great satisfaction that I welcome this useful and long-awaited book, congratulating the authors on their valuable contribution.
