At 69 Cowper Street in Parramatta, a chaotic household of nineteen residents embarks on a fierce competition to determine who possesses the rarest or most valuable historical artifact. Chunmun Singh, a meticulous systems architect living among nine boisterous Desi couples, takes on the role of archivist to document the entries. As the residents present their prized possessions—ranging from a battered 1940s refrigerator and a mechanical Brailler to a unique phone number and a living white apple tree—the criteria for the contest shift from monetary value to the profound emotional weight of preservation.

While cataloging the items, Chunmun uncovers a web of faint, overlapping bureaucratic clues, including faded archive stamps, matching municipal inventory numbers, and shared local surnames. Rather than uncovering a grand conspiracy, his investigation reveals that these wildly disparate objects organically intersected through the same everyday Parramatta repair shops, civic offices, and storage depots. The discovery of a rusted tin box containing an old photograph ultimately proves that decades earlier, a forgotten community group had mounted an identical temporary exhibition to celebrate the exact same philosophy.

The household abandons the competitive ranking and officially opens The Museum of Ordinary Things to their neighbors. Instead of showcasing expensive antiques, the exhibition highlights the profound reasons ordinary people stubbornly refuse to let battered, everyday objects disappear into the dark. The project transforms into a living, breathing community archive, proving that history is often preserved in the quiet, irrational decisions to save what others would casually throw away.
