Accountable Knowledge Architecture for Enterprise AI

Designing Distributed Knowledge Systems for Humans, Models, and Autonomous Agents

Accountable Knowledge Architecture for Enterprise AI

Enterprise AI becomes dangerous when generated claims, retrieved evidence, human decisions, and autonomous actions are treated as equally trustworthy data. Accountable Knowledge Architecture for Enterprise AI presents an edge-native architecture for building distributed knowledge systems where every claim can be traced to its evidence, authority, decisions, and outcomes giving humans, models, and autonomous agents knowledge they can use without sacrificing accountability.

About the Book

This book presents a system design for distributed knowledge platforms that govern how source data becomes claims, how claims earn authority, and how humans, applications and autonomous systems may use them. It develops an Accountable Knowledge Architecture for Enterprise AI, in which domains retain responsibility for their evidence, interpretations and decisions. Knowledge nodes operate within those ownership boundaries and exchange claims through explicit contracts that preserve meaning, provenance and conditions of use.

The need becomes clear when an agent investigates an incident. It retrieves operational records, combines them with earlier memories, proposes an explanation and recommends an action. Its report may then enter a ticket, a runbook or another agent’s context. As that explanation travels, later consumers can lose the distinction between an original observation and the conclusions derived from it. Several agreeing reports may therefore give one weak claim the appearance of independent corroboration. The architecture connects these records so consumers can examine their support and determine whether they remain suitable for the requested use.

The book follows this process from source observation through candidate formation, validation, governed reuse, decision and observed outcome. Each transition identifies who is responsible, what evidence is required, which changes are permitted and what happens when support is missing or disputed. It brings together semantic interoperability, local processing, asynchronous exchange, evidence-aware correlation, retained disagreement, reversible promotion and accountable consumption. It also examines the pressures introduced by agentic AI: growing output volume, rapid decisions, uncertain reasoning, nondeterministic execution, stale memory and delegation across agent handoffs.

The chapters develop these controls through concrete enterprise problems and a connected reference architecture. Normal operation, failure, correction and recovery show how the design affects what a consumer receives and what an execution system may do. The book is written for chief architects, data and knowledge architects, platform and AI architects, senior engineers, technical leaders and postgraduate readers designing systems that must explain and govern the use of shared knowledge.
