This book presents both the fundamentals and advanced topics of finite element analysis (FEA) and design optimization in a concise and pedagogically structured manner. The 436 pages of the book cover the necessary mathematical foundations as well as linear FEA, continuum mechanics, contact mechanics, plasticity, thermomechanics, dynamics, topology optimization, data-driven design optimization, machine learning-assisted surrogate modeling, and design optimization under uncertainty.

All theoretical concepts are presented rigorously yet accessibly, with a strong focus on readability for engineering audiences. The text is supported by numerous explanatory figures and carefully designed exercises. In addition, MATLAB code is provided to solve selected exercises and to illustrate key relationships and algorithms.

The book is suitable for both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as for practicing engineers working with finite element simulations and design optimization in industry. Developed and refined over many years, the material has been extensively used by the author in courses on linear and nonlinear FEA, contact mechanics, and design optimization.
