Domain-Driven Design: The First 15 Years
Domain-Driven Design: The First 15 Years
Essays from the DDD Community
About the Book
Fifteen years after the publication of "Domain-Driven Design: Tackling Complexity in the Heart of Software" by Eric Evans, DDD is gaining more adoption than ever. To celebrate the anniversary, we've asked prominent authors in the software design world to contribute old and new essays. With contributions by Martin Fowler, James Coplien, Rebecca Wirfs-Brock, Mel Conway, and many more.
I am helping teams and companies to develop brilliant solutions to complex problems. Sometimes this involves writing software. Sometimes this involves working with people. I like both ways, especially when it leads me into unexplored territories.
I've been coding since 1982, experimenting since ...forever? This led me into Agile, Domain-Driven Design, Lean, Complexity, Management 3.0 and everything needed in order to solve the problem.
I am a father, a husband, an entrepreneur, a consultant, a developer, a teacher, a public speaker, a cook, a drummer... now it's time to be a writer.
I run avanscoperta, one of the coolest places on earth to teach, learn and experiment.
Cyrille is co-founder of Arolla, a Paris-based company specializing in Software Craftsmanship. Cyrille is a developer with passion since 1999 in several startups, software vendors and banks. Passionate about design in every aspect (TDD, BDD, DDD), he also founded the Paris Software Craftsmanship community and is a regular speaker in Paris, Europe and US.
Still addicted to development, Cyrille dedicates a large part of his energy for clients, hands-on in the code, yet also deeply involved in the business analysis and company-scale transformation initiatives. Over the course of 15 years and many different projects in many contexts, he has tried with his colleagues and peers in other companies many non standard documentation techniques, some more successful than others, always with the end goal of harnessing documentation to raise the bar in software design as a result.
A lot of knowledge is lost when designing and building software — lost because of hand-overs in a telephone game, confusing communication by not having a shared language, discussing complexity without visualisation and by not leveraging the full potential and wisdom of the people. That lost knowledge impacts the quality and value of the software product being build. By leveraging Deep Democracy, Domain-Driven Design, Continuous Delivery and visual collaborate tools, Kenny Baas-Schwegler empowers organisations, teams and people in building valuable quality software products.
One of my core principles is sharing knowledge. I do that by blogging on my website baasie.com I also organise several meetups like Virtual Domain-Driven Design, Domain Driven Design Nederland, and I am a public speaker giving talks and hands-on workshops at conferences and meetups.
Mathias Verraes runs a boutique consultancy that advises organisations on designing and modelling software for complex environments, including architecture, analysis, testing, and refactoring “unmaintainable” systems. He has worked with clients in Finance, Government, Supply Chain, Mobility, Energy, E-Commerce, and more. He teaches Domain-Driven Design courses and curates the DDD Europe conference. When he’s at home in Kortrijk, Belgium, he helps his two sons build crazy Lego contraptions.
