About Tariq
To date, Tariq is the only British born, male, Muslim, Qualified &Registered Sign Language Interpreter (RSLI), in the UK. He graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 2000 with a B.A. (Hons) Interpreting: BSL/English Degree. Over the past 14 years his Interpreting career has covered many areas of BSL Interpreting which include higher education, community, employment, medical, legal, Apple, Barclays, Halifax, BBC etc...
He also:
- Is the founder of TariqDeafUk.com
- Delivers talks, seminars and training workshops, throughout the UK, to professionals on 'BSL Interpreting & Professionals working with Deaf Muslims' & 'Deafness & the BME community'.
- Is an expert consultant on Deafness and the Muslim community.
- Written for LimpingChicken.com
- Appeared on Sky TV discussing Islam and Deafness.
- Has been interviewed on Radio Unity FM several times.
- Has personally developed and provides the annual Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca specifically designed for Deaf Muslims.
In addition to this, in 2014, after finishing at the Birmingham School of Acting, and playing small parts in, Hustle, Line of Duty, Doctors and September 11(a Deaf Film about 9/11), Tariq played a lead actor in 'Wormholes' a film that was nominated for Best Comedy & Editing at the Southampton International Film Festival 2013. He continues in this field, as well as all his other work, with new plans for other acting projects in the coming future.
