About the Book
A modest music-reading ability and knowledge of basic music theory will help users of this book. The Fingerboard Harmony Primer for Classical Guitar explores basic triad shapes on each set of adjacent three strings along with suggestions for their practice. These are then used to show the derivation of the most commonly used four-voice chords. Mastery of this material will help develop the relationship between key and position on the guitar and serve as the foundation of prior knowledge that will facilitate the study of repertoire.
Note that this is not a chord dictionary—there are plenty of those—but a booklet that can help students learn the fingerboard rather simply memorizing chord shapes without knowing what they are or how they relate to surrounding chords.
Note that if you own or plan to purchase volume one of The Classical Guitar Companion, the material in this primer is included there, so don't purchase this unless you wish to have this material in electronic form or available on your iPad, Kindle, or other device.
