Jannes Gatley
My name is Jannes Gatley, and I am an experienced educator with a rich background in international teaching spanning over two decades. My journey began at Hillcrest High School in Durban, South Africa where I taught from 1998 to 2014. During this time, I refined my teaching abilities and developed a strong foundation in high school Accounting, Business Studies, and History.
In pursuit of new challenges and the opportunity to share my expertise globally, I ventured into international teaching over the last 10 years. I spent an inspiring year at Nazarbayev International School in Kazakhstan, followed by four adventurous years at Yew Chung International School in Hong Kong. These experiences broadened my perspectives and allowed me to adapt my teaching methodologies to diverse cultural settings.
For the past five years, I have been part of the faculty at the International School of Beijing in China. Here, I have continued to specialize in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Economics, guiding students from various backgrounds to academic success and preparing them for global opportunities.
These international teaching positions have given me the chance to travel extensively, explore new places, and immerse myself in diverse cultures, enriching both my personal and professional life.
I’ve always been passionate about education and cultural exchange throughout my career. I’m committed to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Having seen the power of education firsthand, I’m eager to help educators navigate the world of international teaching.
In this eBook, I aim to share my experiences, insights, and practical advice to help you succeed in the international teaching landscape. Whether you are an experienced teacher looking to expand your horizons or new to the field, I hope this guide will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to embark on a fulfilling international teaching career.
