About the Book
The near future. Corporations are vying for geopolitical recognition. With global dominance by North America, the age referred to as Pax Americana is on the cusp of providing either international stability or utter chaos. Politicians, corporate leaders and power brokers use citizens as pawns in their intrigues.
Joe, a member of the mercenary forces recently deployed to near space, finds himself dragged into the conflict against his will. A former girl-friend, Betsy, goes against her better judgement and puts her trust in Joe and his violent, soldiering ways. As the informal leader of a grass-roots citizen group called the Old-Worlders, her goal is to obstruct the escalating power grab by both politicians and corporations.
Joe's use of violence clashes with the Old-Worlders and is more aligned with the techniques of the politicians and corporate bosses. Amalgamated Holdings, Inc., the largest global corporate entity is moving to control trade, economics, the military -- every fabric of daily life. Powerful men, like Senator Camp, Colonel Brasstowski and Admiral Burch, all see opportunity for personal gain, and extortion and double-dealing are simple means to an end. Betsy is seeking a one in a million opportunity to live life respecting the rights of citizens granted by the U.S. Constitution.

About the Author
Mac MacFarlane has served in the military, working in such places as The Pentagon and in close support of The White House. He has also worked as a member of executive teams for several hospitals. He lives with his family in Michigan.
