About the Book
Google Docs is one of the most widely used applications in the world today. Millions of people use it for everything from writing notes and keeping track of events to collaborating in multi-member teams on complex projects involving several documents.
While it is one of the easiest apps to use -- it behaves just like any other word processor you might already be familiar with -- at the same time, it has some capabilities that are either missing from other tools or are handled somewhat differently. Use Google Docs Like a Pro fills in those blanks in the relatively sparse online documentation for Google Docs.
In the chapters that are already completed in this book, you'll learn how to track where your document is, use the files-and-folders approach to keeping track of documents, setting preferences for your documents and the Google Docs environment (many of which are quite helpful once you know about them), and manage Tables of Contents, footnotes, and outlines. You'll also gain a clear understanding of how Google Docs interacts with documents that are stored in other popular formats such as PDFs and Microsoft Office formats, including how to import from and export to those supported formats.
Buying the book at the introductory price entitles you to free upgrades to upcoming versions (for which higher prices will be charged) that will cover such topics as understanding deeply how Google Docs handles sharing of documents and updating of collaborators, and how to use some very powerful and cool built-in research tools. (Both of those chapters are scheduled for delivery before the end of October, 2014.)
As time goes on, we will add other, as-yet-undetermined topics to this volume. Each time we do, we'll probably raise the price but you won't ever pay another dime once you've bought this book. With the LeanPub model, all future upgrades are free!
