About the Book
You can’t escape the past if you can’t see your future.
Seven years ago, friends Cassie, Samuel and Eric wander across Latin America in a perpetual state of debauchery, sex and alcohol the only things on their minds. When the trio decides to visit the rainforest, Cassie and Samuel tragically witness Eric being torn to shreds by a mysterious cave monster lurking in the darkness.
Terrified, Samuel and Cassie make a run for it. Cassie escapes, winding back up in America, while Samuel is trapped on the continent and spends years in a drunken haze as Eric’s death haunts his soul. When Samuel finally makes it back to the U.S., his attempts to reconnect with Cassie are marred when the evil creature that killed Eric attempts to communicate with them both from thousands of miles away. Meanwhile, Cassie is haunted by a dark apparition that may be Eric… or is it?
In The Presumption of Darkness, author Thomas Mattheos weaves a dark tale of the demons that haunt our dreams and fuel our nightmares. In this darkly riveting story, the lives of two friends become more intertwined than they ever expected, as the burning heat in their hearts fights back against the cold and brutal darkness that lurks around – and within -- themselves.
