Eric Marlow has lived a conventional life. He's been grinding away a provincial existence up to his middle age, but with a failing marriage and little to no family contact, he's looking to make a change at the National Teaching Conference, where he hopes to escape his high school teaching career and make it big with tenure at a University instructing students in Literature and Philosophy.

But things change sooner than Eric expects when he finds a mysterious journal left abandoned in his classroom the day after the Conference. What he reads inside will not only change his life, but the lives of all those around him. Through an unlikely friendship, Eric will learn once and for all that the key to being profound is not to teach, but to listen.
