Three hundred years from now, humans are slowly adapting to a world without fossil fuels. The only way to travel and trade is in the jet streams, ten thousand meters above the surface of the earth. Huge ships are pushed through the streams on neverending trips around the globe. Quentin is on his first voyage around Earth as captain of one of these ships. His soon-to-be wife Sarah is back in New York preparing for her new role, and trying to find out what is causing all the accidents that seem to befall the ship.
