About the Book
You know that mental tension—perhaps you were wrestling with some mathematical problem, or trying to remember the shopping list, or attempting to ignore some noisy colleagues to focus on your work.
These activities provide a stark contrast to the gentle thoughts that appear when we daydream, or have an intuition about something, or let habit direct our behaviour.
Mental effort is a necessary part of life, but that’s not to say we don’t try to avoid it. We procrastinate where possible or take the easiest path when we know where that is. Why would you invest any more than you need to?
The Will to Think explores these questions and more.
