About the Author
Fred Horch shares thirty years of hard-won knowledge from practical, hands-on expertise to empower individuals and organizations to achieve their sustainability goals. Trained as an attorney, Fred has worked as a computer network administrator, programmer, legal editor, corporate counsel, project manager, and small business owner, in addition to renovating a home built in 1828, raising three children, running for legislative office several times to promote wiser public policy and help the Maine Green Independent Party retain ballot access, and living and traveling in France, Japan, Chile, and New Zealand. As proprietor of F. W. Horch Sustainable Goods & Supplies, advertising a mission of "practically, saving the planet," he answered questions from hundreds of customers about which of thousands of so-called "green" products and services would best meet their needs. As co-founder of Spark Applied Efficiency, an electrical contracting firm, Fred has helped business owners and homeowners improve their energy efficiency, electrify their operations, become more resilient with battery backup, and go solar.
- Fred earned his undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College and his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
