About the Book
A book of Waka, short form poetry, most of which are Haiku and Senryu; many of which are colorfully illustrated.
Waka, described in English as short form poetry, is best known by the Japanese form of Hokku or Haiku which is itself a derivative or reduction of earlier Japanese forms. It is primarily concerned with seasons. Senryu, while similar in form, is more concerned with human nature. There are adherents to short form poetry in other cultures as well.
This work is put forth in the desire to display the spirit of these varied short forms in the English language. I do this recognizing that the exact reproduction of Japanese or another culture's short form poetry is impossible, as the linguistic differences cannot be overcome.
