About the Book
I grew up in a small but faithful congregation of Protestant Christians, where the organist or pianist provided accompaniment to sung worship. Oh, the singing! It helped that my Dad sang harmonies. When aged ten I moved to a church with a band leading the music - a stage piano, and a guitarist and even some percussion... my life changed forever.
I've been playing in church for nearly twenty years. I've changed, my church has changed, I've even changed church, but one thing still remains central to every service we play in. It's a small group of people with specific skills leading the communal worship experience of everyone in the building. That's a tall order, especially since everybody will have an opinion one way or another.
I'm setting out some of my experiences, some of the lessons I've learned, and some of the principles by which I try to do what's necessary when I'm asked to. It's not a definitive guide, but I hope it will be a useful prompt to anyone else thinking on the same lines.
