Rethinking Agile
Rethinking Agile
Empowering developers to go beyond an endless sprint.
About the Book
Agile is a technology for helping teams release features to customers more efficiently. Like all technology, efficiency is not the be-all and end-all. We must weigh its influence on human relationships and development. Technology must be evaluated, and Agile is no different.
My thesis is that Agile's strength is its greatest weakness. It promotes strong efficiency to release features, and yet, such endless sprints towards releasing features can cause fatigue. Developers need rest, and they need to be empowered to be creative.
Agile assumes that the goal of developers is to release features for a product. It is a goal, but there are many other interests for developers.
Perhaps, it is time to rethink Agile--not to throw it away, but rather to do a healthy dose of refactoring.
