About the Book
Volocity is an imaging analysis software developed by Perkin Elmer Company. It can be used for visualization, modification and quantitation of 2D images, 3D volumes or 4D volume sequences, including multi-channel images.
Volocity provides powerful tools for image quantification, which dramatically speed up data analysis. Besides, while manual counting prone to be subjective, automatic quantification by Volocity produces objective data with efficiently certain protocol. Volocity also provides modules for various functions, enabling fast establishment of novel protocol for specific aims. Also Volocity can process images such as remove noise and backgrounds, which can be employed to explore current imaging data to the utmost.
This manual contains basic skills about Volocity and emphasizes on quantification strategies. Detailed examples came from projects the author of this manual has worked with. Although this manual cannot cover every aspect of Volocity, it provides useful information on certain topics including finding and quantifying intensity of objects in 2D images as well 3D volumes, counting certain items and their colocalization and several image processing skills. Utilizing strategies in this manual, Volocity can analyze large amount of data within minutes, which means one can get results almost immediately after imaging. Strategies in this manual mainly came from the author’s trials, reflection, and exploration of Volocity User Guide for Volocity 6.3. They also showed the entire development process of current assays in use.
