About the Book

I once gave a freshman course on system engineering. The magic of system engineering is that once you understand a transistor, you can mostly understand an entire CPU. Later, I wrote this book on term rewriting with following the same principle: with (hardly) any assumptions, term rewriting can be understood, and an entire programming language is developed. All code in this book is available on GitHub, including a self-compiling compiler.
