Love and Culpability

About the Book

Over the years Frank has dealt with a lot of strange people. He had expected that at work—it's what psychiatrists do. With each new patient, Frank learns more ways that brain disease can affect behavior, and becomes more compassionate towards people who misbehave when they are sick.

But increasingly Frank is also dealing with mental illness at church and at home. Can he ever mix his compassion wisely with fairness and the recognition that people have limited patience?

Join Frank's wrestle with these issues in the hospital, the courtroom, the bishop's office, and the home.

About the Author

Kevin J. Black
Kevin J. Black, M.D.

This book is heavily influenced by my experiences in three arenas, all of which involve getting to know people at the most important moments in their lives.

  • I'm a neuropsychiatrist. I have taken care of people with movement disorders for over 25 years, and I use brain imaging to study them. For more details you can check my work web page
  • I'm a husband and father, and could not have asked for a better family.
  • My Christian faith has affected all the important decisions in my life. I was raised in an LDS home, served as a bishop and as counselor to a stake president, and am still active in my congregation in the St. Louis area.

I should warn you: the ideas in this book are consistent with my experiences and belief, but do not necessarily represent the opinion of my employer, my family or my church.
